Germany has been Turkey's number-one export market for years: automotive components, textiles and apparel, machinery, white goods, furniture, food, chemicals and building materials leave Turkey for Germany every single day. Thanks to the Customs Union there is no customs duty on industrial products; the speed, security and predictability of your shipment, however, depend on your carrier's infrastructure. This guide walks exporters, manufacturers and e-commerce sellers shipping commercial freight from Turkey to Germany through road logistics from start to finish: transport models, documents, Frankfurt and Munich depot services, CMR insurance and tailored solutions for industrial cargo.
Transport Models: Groupage, Full Load and Special Equipment
| Model | Suitable cargo | Transit | Departures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Groupage (LTL) | 1-15 pallets, 1-40 m³ | 5-8 days | Weekly scheduled |
| Full load (FTL) | Curtain-sider: 33 Euro pallets / 90 m³ / 24 tonnes | 3-5 days | On demand, daily |
| Mega / Jumbo trailer | High-volume, lightweight cargo (100-120 m³) | 3-5 days | On demand |
| Refrigerated | Temperature-controlled food and chemicals | 3-5 days | On demand |
| Low-loader / flatbed | Machinery, construction equipment, out-of-gauge cargo | 5-8 days | Project-based |
Groupage loads are consolidated at our Istanbul and Gaziantep depots, then deconsolidated at our Frankfurt depot and distributed to every region of Germany. Full-load vehicles run directly from your factory to the consignee's warehouse.

Documents and the Customs Process
On the Turkish side
- Commercial invoice (HS code, Incoterms, consignee EORI/USt-IdNr)
- Packing list
- A.TR movement certificate — eliminates EU customs duty on industrial products; for agricultural products, EUR.1 / certificate of origin
- Export declaration (requires registration with the Exporters' Association; we support first-time exporters through the process)
- CMR consignment note — issued by the carrier
- Product-specific: CE declaration of conformity, health certificate for food, ADR documents for dangerous goods, ISPM-15 for wooden packaging
Transit and the German side
- The export declaration is closed at Kapıkule; a T1 transit is opened on entry into Bulgaria (it can also be opened from Turkey via NCTS, which shortens the wait at the border).
- The vehicle reaches Germany via Bulgaria–Serbia–Hungary–Austria. The Romanian route is used as an alternative.
- At the destination customs office (Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne, Hamburg, etc.) the import declaration is lodged through the ATLAS system; customs duty is 0% with the A.TR, and the 19% import VAT is either paid by the consignee or reclaimed as Vorsteuer.
- The cargo is released; groupage loads are deconsolidated at our Frankfurt depot and delivered.
Turkish exporters mostly work on DAP terms (taxes payable by the buyer); for B2C and e-commerce shipments we provide import-representation support under the DDP model (delivered with taxes paid).
Frankfurt and Munich Depot Services
Our Frankfurt depot is the hub of our German operation; a partner warehouse in Munich handles distribution to Bavaria and Austria. Services offered:
- Cross-docking: groupage loads are deconsolidated and distributed throughout Germany within 24-48 hours
- Short- and medium-term storage: when the consignee's warehouse is not ready or staged delivery is required
- Stock holding (fulfilment): holding stock in Germany for e-commerce and dealer distribution, with order-based dispatch
- Labelling, palletising, repackaging
- Returns logistics: return loads from Germany to Turkey (faulty goods, samples, empty packaging)
CMR Insurance and Additional Cover
In international road transport the carrier's liability is governed by the CMR Convention. Standard CMR insurance is included on every shipment we carry; however, the compensation limit is set in SDR per kilogram of gross weight and may fall well short of the real value of high-value, lightweight cargo (electronics, textiles, precision machinery). For that reason:
- For high-value cargo, separate cargo (marine) insurance is arranged on the invoice value; the premium is a small percentage of the invoice value.
- The policy should be "all-risk" and cover theft, accident, water damage and loading/unloading damage.
- When damage is found, a reservation must be noted on the CMR document and a photographed report drawn up.

Industrial and Project Logistics
Machinery, production lines, construction equipment and out-of-gauge cargo cannot travel on a standard curtain-sider. For these loads REG Transport provides:
- Low-loader and flatbed vehicles, route permits and escort arrangements for out-of-gauge cargo
- Loading/unloading by crane and forklift, wooden crating and lashing services
- Certified vehicles and drivers for dangerous goods under ADR
- Trade fair logistics: stand and product shipments to fairs in Frankfurt, Cologne, Hanover, Munich and Nuremberg, with return transport after the show
Which Sectors Do We Serve?
- Automotive components: OEM and dealer deliveries, JIT shipments
- Textiles and apparel: hanging/boxed garments, store and warehouse deliveries
- Furniture and home textiles: retail, project and e-commerce (see shipping furniture from Turkey to Germany)
- Food: dry goods, pulses, olive oil, tinned products; refrigerated transport
- Building materials: ceramics, marble, natural stone, aluminium, PVC profiles
- Machinery and metal: crated, palletised, out-of-gauge
- E-commerce: replenishment shipments to Amazon.de and dealer warehouses
How Are Freight Rates Calculated?
- Groupage: per pallet or per m³; per tonne for heavy cargo (volume/weight ratio).
- Full load: a fixed rate per vehicle by origin and destination city; more favourable when a return load is available.
- Additional items: collection/delivery address, tail-lift, timed delivery, depot services, ADR surcharge, out-of-gauge permits.
- Customs: export declaration, A.TR, T1 guarantee, German import declaration; VAT and representation under DDP.
- Insurance: cargo insurance on the invoice value.
Just-in-Time and Contract Transport
For Turkish companies supplying German automotive and white-goods manufacturers we set up fixed-schedule (for example, departure every Tuesday) transport contracts with KPIs: on-time delivery rate, damage rate and document accuracy are reported monthly. Extra vehicle capacity is guaranteed in peak periods, and costs are optimised with return loads during the off-season.
Example Scenario: Weekly Food Shipments from Gaziantep to Frankfurt
A company producing pulses and spices in Gaziantep sends 10-12 pallets every week to its wholesaler in Germany. The products are palletised at our Gaziantep depot, and the health certificate and EUR.1 are issued. The vehicle departs on Monday; because the T1 is opened from Turkey, the wait at Kapıkule is short. On Thursday the import declaration is lodged at our Frankfurt depot and on Friday the goods are delivered to the wholesaler's warehouse. On the return leg the same vehicle carries machinery spare parts from Germany to Turkey, so the freight rate is optimised in both directions.

- Insurance: CMR included; optional full-cover insurance on the declared value.
Common Mistakes
- Not issuing the A.TR certificate — customs duty becomes payable.
- Shipping without the consignee's EORI number.
- Pallets without the ISPM-15 stamp — the load may be rejected.
- Insurance that does not match the value of the cargo.
- Planning trade fair and project shipments with a tight delivery window and no buffer time.
